One great way that you can be a support to your wife is to pitch in with the laundry. Though things have come a long way since the days of washboards, there still some things that you need to know. It is not enough just to stuff everything in the washing machine and push the switch. The first thing to know is that certain kinds of clothing do not go in the washer or dryer at all. A good way to check this is to look at the tags and the clothing. Some will say “dry clean only” and this is a sign that you should not use your washing machine. Sometimes, there're things that are best to wash in the washing machine and then let air dry, such as jeans so that they do not shrink. Secondly, you'll probably want to separate your laundry into at least lights and darks. If you wash white clothing with clothing that has strong colors, the colors can bleed off the washing machine and stain your white clothing. Thirdly, you'll need to know what kind of detergent and fabric softener to use. Detergent comes in either liquid or solid form the fabric softener can either be a liquid to come in the form of a dryer sheet. To make things easier, my wife and I separate lights darks and different hampers that have separate hampers for each of the children, because this makes it easier to fold and put away clothing based on the different sizes. Laundry is fortunately one of those chores that never does go away, so do your best to pitch in whenever you can.
