The Disney version of Beauty and the Beast, the main character Belle’s father is a little odd. He spends his day tinkering with inventions, elaborate machines that he hopes will change the world. He doesn’t fit the mold of the other people in the town, and he’s passed on this brand of strangeness to his daughter, who also does not fit in.
What is interesting is that they don’t fit in with society, but they fit well with each other. Though it pains Belle to see others make fun of her father, she stands by him because she cares more about what her father thinks than what everyone else thinks. When times are hard, she stands by her family instead of what’s easy or popular, which is just the way it should be.
