Day 207: George Saunders on Fatherhood

“He was a father. That’s what a father does.
Eases the burdens of those he loves.
Saves the ones he loves from painful last images that might endure for a lifetime.”
― George SaundersTenth of December

Often, easing the burdens of those you love comes at a high price to yourself. Love for your children, however, eases the burdens as you take them from your children, much as your father might have done for you. You can help them see the goodness in the world, so that they will grow up with a positive outlook on life that will carry them through the times when it is their turn to bear others’ burdens.
