Day 82: Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin

When and where did they live?  He was born Feb, 12th, 1809 in England, and died on Apr 19th, 1882, also in England.

 

What are they the father of? Why is he famous?  He is the father of the theory of evolution. He published the famous book “On the Origin of Species” in 1859, which introduced dramatic new theories about the origin and diversity of life.

 

How many children did they have?  Did they follow in their father’s footsteps? He married his first cousin and had 10 children, six sons and four daughters.  It is reported that Darwin was a loving father who spent much of his time with his children.  Many of his children followed their father into the sciences. His son, Sir Frances Darwin, became a well-known botanist.  George Darwin became an accomplished astronomer and Horace Darwin became a distinguished civil engineer, just to name a few.
